Getting started

Record a file

Prepare a file, submit its fingerprint and find the saved record.

Before you start

Keep the exact original file. Editing, re-exporting or re-saving can change its fingerprint. Quantum Notary records a SHA-256 fingerprint and cannot restore the file from it. See the file fingerprint demonstration.

Check Credits for available credits and record capacity. Each file costs one notarization credit and needs capacity for a record. See Pricing for current offers.

Record the file

  1. Open Notarize. Drop or browse for one file, up to 2 GB in the console.
  2. Wait for the browser to calculate SHA-256. This file flow hashes locally; it does not upload the file contents. The digest and file metadata are sent to the service.
  3. Optionally set namespace (up to 64 characters) and external-id (up to 256). These labels remain off-chain. Avoid sensitive details in labels or filenames.
  4. Review the file details, fingerprint, Base destination, metadata and cost: 1 credit. Select Notarize file.
  5. Save any acceptance receipt offered. Check the outcome in Records; processing time varies.

Find the record and preserve proof

In Records, search by filename, digest, external ID or topic, then open the record. A missing result does not prove submission failure. Use the original submission's recovery controls when available.

Read Record statuses before resubmitting after a network problem. When proof is available, follow Receipts and proof downloads and keep the exported artifacts with the exact file.
